Living your life as au pair in America is for everyone different. For some people it is amazing and for others it is much harder. If you’re considering of becoming an au pair you might want to know how it is to be an au pair. Thats why I decided to interview au pairs and ask them about their experience. This week I interviewed Valisha from The Netherlands. She lives in Kingston, Pennsylvania and takes care of two boys. She has told me so much great things but the best one is that she found an app that helps you work out and gives you something back for it.
Living abroad was my dream since I was very young, I actually don’t know why I used to dream it so hard, but I just found really interesting to live in a foreign country, speaking every day a foreign language, learning a new culture daily, and so on.
What myself still confuses is that the American don’t use Celsius and kilometer. I even never heard bevor from Fahrenheit and miles. With the miles I get better use to than with the Fahrenheit, because miles are very easy to translate in kilometers.
The biggest struggle for me is definitely living together with your boss. You constantly mix work and private life and you have to find a good balance. And even tho you’re part of the household you still don’t have as many rights as them.
Be honest and be you. Don’t be afraid to step up for yourself. If you are unhappy talk to your LCC or your family! Because if you don’t tell anyone you are gonna be the only sad person.
